Mysore (ashtanga) Eng.
A Mysore class is a type of Ashtanga Yoga class where students practice independently, following a set sequence of poses at their own pace. Unlike a typical led class where the teacher guides everyone together, in a Mysore class, the teacher provides one-on-one instruction, adjustments, and support as needed, but the students move through the sequence on their own. Here’s how it works: 1. Self-Paced Practice: Each student starts at a different time and goes through the sequence of poses they have learned so far, allowing for a personalized pace and focus. 2. Individual Guidance: The teacher walks around the room, offering adjustments, advice, and helping students deepen their practice. New poses are introduced gradually as the student becomes ready. 3. Set Sequence: Students follow a specific sequence of postures (usually from the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series) that they've memorized. Beginners might only know a few poses, while advanced students might practice the entire series. 4. Primary Sequence Chart: To help with memorization, each student is given a printed Primary Sequence chart. This chart serves as a visual aid, allowing students to learn and remember the sequence as they practice. 5. Flexible Start Time: In many Mysore classes, students can arrive and start their practice within a certain time window, rather than having a fixed start time. Mysore classes are ideal for those who want a more personalised approach to yoga, allowing them to develop at their own pace while still benefiting from the guidance of an experienced teacher. The sequence chart helps ease the learning process, making it easier for students to internalise the practice.
